TransTech Environmental Consultants - Bat Survey Scotland

Bat Survey Company Covering Argyll, Highland, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire

All British bats are protected under the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Nature Conservation (Scotland) Act 2004.

We can determine if bats are present at a development site and, if found, carry out a survey to identify which breed is present.

The 1981 and 2004 Acts make it an offence to:

  • Intentionally or recklessly kill, injure or capture/take a bat;Intentionally or recklessly damage, destroy or obstruct a bat's place of shelter or protection (a roost);
  • Intentionally or recklessly disturb a bat in its roost; and
  • Knowingly cause or permit any of the above offences to take place.

A thorough inspection of buildings and trees is carried out at dusk and dawn usually between June and August when the bats are most active.

Once an entry point has been located the status of the roost can be determined, i.e. whether it is a male, maternal or transitory roost. TransTech will produce a report suitable for the planning process. This will identify potential impacts on the species, suggest mitigation and any further work required.

Mitigation measures are site specific and will be assessed in close liaison with Scottish Natural Heritage or if the site lies in a National Park, the Parks Authority.

We carry out bat surveys throughout Scotland which includes the Western Isles and Argyll, Lochaber, Ardnamurchan and the rest of Highland down to Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders.
