We have over ten years of flood risk assessment experience working across Scotland including the Western Isles and Argyll, Lochaber, Ardnamurchan and the rest of Highland down to Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders. This work has involved gaining planning consent for everything from individual dwellings to housing estates, care homes, schools, retail establishments, business premises, community projects, caravan sites and sports facilities.
Fluvial flood risk assessment involves determining the risk of flooding to a proposed development site from minor watercourses, burns and/or rivers.
Some form of hydraulic modelling is often required to determine the predicted flood level within a watercourse.
We only carry out flood risk assessment work for sites in Scotland according to SEPA and local planning authority criteria. This usually requires the modelling of a 1 in 200 year flow plus a 20% allowance for climate change.
For sites that are known to flood we can determine what proportion of the site is affected so that the development can be located on land out with the predicted floodplain.
