Private Water Supply Assessments in Argyll & Bute, Highland and throughout Scotland
At TransTech, we’ve been providing private water supply assessments for businesses and individuals across Scotland since 2006. Whether you need a risk assessment for a new property development or a water quality evaluation for an existing private water supply, our expert team is equipped to ensure that your water meets the necessary sufficiency and wholesomeness requirements.
Sufficiency and Wholesomeness of Supply Requirements
In Scotland, private water supply assessments are required to establish the sufficiency and wholesomeness of supply. Environmental Health is responsible for this, and for proposed new developments, they require a private water supply assessment to be carried out. NB: they often refer to this as a "hydrological assessment."
Sufficiency refers to the evaluation of whether the source of supply will provide enough water during prolonged periods of drought. To determine this, TransTech uses Institute of Hydrology procedures or low flows software to evaluate the sufficiency of supply at the abstraction location.
Wholesomeness relates to the existing or proposed supply's chemical and biological quality. Where water quality could adversely affect human health, appropriate treatment must be put in place. This needs to comply with the 2006 or 2017 regulations for private water supplies.
Where water test results are not available, TransTech will collect a water sample for UKAS accredited laboratory analysis.
Note, in recent years, we have also undertaken private water supply testing and/or full supply assessments in terms of sufficiency and wholesomeness for properties that are to be sold or are for sale. The request for these comes from either the vendor or the purchaser, and this work can be performed expeditiously.
